The Department of Homeland Security announced on Monday, December 5, a delay in the deadline for commuters traveling by air to have a REAL ID. The extension is for an additional two years. The REAL ID program, which was to start in May 2023, is scheduled to commence on May 7, 2025.

A REAL ID is a federally accepted form of an identification card or driver’s license used to board domestic air flights in the U.S. and enter secure federal buildings, including military headquarters, federal courthouses, and secure federal establishments. The REAL ID will bear the mark of  a golden bear and a star.
