The DOE Launches Funding Opportunity to Improve Wind Turbine Composite Materials

Image

The DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (DOE) announced $30 million in funding, which will assist in advancing composite materials and additive manufacturing for immense wind turbines, as well as offshore wind energy systems.

This funding opportunity aims to enhance the manufacturability and performance of composite materials, materials made up of numerous constituents, such as fibers and polymers. Projects funded through this initiative will aid in addressing the preferences established in DOE’s Offshore Wind Supply Chain Road Map and Floating Offshore Wind Shot™, including the Biden administration’s plans to deploy 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030 and reach a net-zero carbon economy by 2050.
