On February 24, 2023, The Los Angeles City Council announced the approval of an ordinance planned to protect freelance workers in the city, as reported by the Los Angeles Daily News.

The adoption mandates that any contract of $600 or more between employers and freelance workers be in writing, with a specific date by which the freelancer must be paid. Additionally, if the contract does not have a date or no written contract has been agreed upon, employers must pay freelancers within 30 days after the work is finished.
