Publisher and Editor of The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Dowling, Has Died at Age 83

SANTA MONICA-Robert Joseph “Bob” Dowling, Publisher, and editor-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter died on Friday, December 30, at his residence in Santa Monica after a brief fight with cancer, according to a family spokesperson.

Dowling was known as a friendly journalist covering the world of entertainment, in his efforts, he revised the regulations of engagement of Hollywood trade business, and Dowling helped the publication evolve.

Dowling was Born in Long Island, New York, on September 16, 1939, Dowling was cast aside by his birth mom and lived three years in different foster homes before he was adopted. Dowling was raised with the talents of a natural-born salesman, as written in his 2019 memoir “My Life, and Then Some,” partially due to his capability to care for those on the other side of the sale.

He went to  Villanova University, and in his 20s he became the editor and publisher of multiple magazine publications, including Menswear, High-Tech Marketing, American Druggist, and Sports Marketing News.

Dowling is survived by his wife Juanita, his three children, seven grandchildren, and his dog K.C.
