Los Angeles Firefighters Urge Storm Safety and Preparedness
LOS ANGELES - Before it starts to rain in Southern California, the Los Angeles Fire Department encourages residents to protect themselves from injury and property damage from what can occur during and after hazardous weather conditions.
LAFD Provides Sandbags for Homeowners
LOS ANGELES - To help residents in the City of Los Angeles prepare for rainstorms, the Los Angeles Fire Department provides ready-to-fill sandbags year-round at no cost. Sandbags can be picked up at any Community Fire Station, with sand also available for free, at select locations, as seasonal weather conditions warrant. LAFD will provide sand - and up to 25 free sandbags per household, However, the Fire Department is unable to fill, deliver, install or remove sandbags.
Sand may be desirable, but according to officials local soil can also be used and has proved to be just as effective.
Additionally, sandbags must be filled properly and placed in the correct areas of your property to redirect moving water and storm and debris wash away from your residence improvements. Sandbagging and flood control requires a higher labor input, and can lead to injury. read more about Properly filled and placed sandbags.
Please be sure to follow important safety guidelines and consider hiring a licensed contractor for any large or special needs to protect your property.
Citizens who require additional sand, sandbags, and other supplies can contact a local home improvement store or building supply center, many of which will deliver flood preparedness and debris control aids to where they are needed.
