2 People killed in explosive crash involving a van and a semitruck

SUN VALLEY, Two victims were killed in a vehicle collision Friday morning in Sun Valley roughly before 5:00 a.m. at the interchange of the 170 Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said., CHP said.

Officers said that the crash involved two vehicles and caused all southbound lanes on the 5 Freeway to be shut down.

According to a CHP incident report, a fire occurred when the big rig crashed with a white van that was stalled in lanes.

Fire officials were at the scene to extinguish the fire.

It is unknown if the people killed were the van or semi-truck occupants. The victim's identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Commuters traveling via the southbound 5 Freeway experienced delayed traffic and were diverted onto the southbound 170 Freeway.
