SUSPECT ARRESTED IN THE MURDER OF LOS ANGELES BISHOP DAVID O’CONNELL: Police say

Hacienda Heights-A suspect has been taken into custody in connection to the deadly shooting of Catholic Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell, police officials announced today.

69-year-old Bishop O’Connell, of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, was discovered unresponsive with a gunshot wound inside his Hacienda Heights residence in the 1500 block of Janlu Avenue at approximately 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 18, 2023, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriffs office.

No information about the suspect or their connection to Bishop O’Connell was released.

O’Connell was from County Cork, Ireland, and served in the Los Angeles Archdioceses since 1979.

Update: 5:29 pm, Monday, February 2, 2023, The suspect arrested in the shooting death of Bishop O’Connell was identified as 65-year-old Carlos Medina, of Torrance California. According to police,  Medina is the spouse of the bishop's housekeeper and claims that bishop O’Connell owed him money.
