Los Angeles-Southwest Division on-duty patrol officers responded to a dispatch call about a stolen vehicle investigation, at Flower Street and Jefferson Avenue on February 13, 2023, at approximately 6:00 a.m.

Authorities reached the location but did not find the individual reporting the incident. Police officers stayed in the area where the call was reported and surveyed a trailer truck with a matching description,  at Exposition Boulevard and Western Avenue.

After officers verified the make and model of the vehicle, they broadcasted information regarding the stolen truck with one occupant, who was later identified as Pedro Villalobos. Officials requested backup law enforcement units, an  Air Unit, and a supervisor.

Villalobos completed a southbound turn onto Hoover Street from 40th Place. While turning southbound, the trailer hitched to the truck and hit a parked auto, and Villalobos  kept traveling south on Hoover Street.

Authorities announced the initiation of an automobile chase. Villalobos tried to turn eastbound onto 42nd Street from southbound Flower Street; yet, he lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer and stop on the east side of the crossroad.

The first responding units executed a high-risk traffic stop on Villalobos. Villalobos failed to comply with the officers’ orders, fled the vehicle, and exited on a skateboard south on Flower Street. Several officers chased Villalobos on foot while other police units drove past Villalobos’ where he was observed.

One of the police officials driving past Villalobos fled his police car and tried to catch Villalobos as he passed on his skateboard. Villalobos pushed his shoulder forward to evade the officer’s grip, causing the police officer to touch his upper back, which caused Villalobos to fall.

When police authorities arrested Villalobos they learned he had a wound on his right leg. Villalobos was taken to a local hospital by Rescue Ambulance, where was admitted and treated for his wounds.

No officials or other people were injured.

The South Traffic Division (STD) responded to0 the scene and conducted a traffic crash report. Detectives from FID arrived at the location and are investigating this case as a Law Enforcement Related Injury.

This incident is being investigated by Force Investigation Division detectives.
