National Slam the Scam Day is March 9, 2023

The Social Security Administration announced today that on National Slam the Scam Day and throughout the year, they provide the tools to identify Social Security-related scams and prevent scammers from swiping your finances and personal information. 

Share scam information with your family friends and others who may be potential victims. 



Slam the Scam!



Four basic signs of a scam:

  1. Scammers pretend to be from familiar organizations or agencies, like the Social Security Administration. They may email attachments with official-looking logos, seals, signatures, or pictures of employee credentials.
  2. Scammers mention a prize or a problem0. They may say your Social Security number was involved in a crime or ask for personal information to process a benefit increase.
  3. Scammers pressure you to act instantly. They may threaten to arrest you or start legal action.
  4. Scammers tell you to pay using a prepaid debit card,
  5. a gift card, cryptocurrency, wire or money transfer, or by mailing cash and additionally tell you to transfer your money to a “safe” account.

Shun scammers and report criminal behavior. Recognize and report Social Security-related scams to the SSA Office of the Inspector General (OIG).
