After homeless person dies in severe storm Long Beach seeks to open more shelter

The city of Long Beach has chosen to cancel programs to open another cold season shelter despite a homeless individual dying from cold exposure this past weekend.

Nevertheless, many citizens and officials acknowledge that unhoused people require help.

Christine Berry, a Homeless advocate who operates Ashlee's Homeless Fund, since the storms started a week ago she has enabled 13 individuals to find shelter and a bed to sleep in.

According to Mayor Rex Richardson. the city has one shelter with 81 beds that is full every night.

Long Beach Multi-Service Center opened up more beds, but this is not a permanent resolution. The beds are taken down and put up every day.

In addition, the city has opened a temporary shelter which closes by the end of the week.
