National Guard called to aid snowed-in residents in the San Bernardino Mountains

BIG BEAR-The California National Guard squads will arrive in the San Bernardino Mountains, on Thursday, to assist residents trapped in their homes, some citizens have communicated that they are running low on supplies.

Teams from the National guard's Joint Taskforce Rattlesnake left Fresno on Thursday, set to arrive in the afternoon. According to Brian Ferguson, a spokesman for the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services stated in an email to ABC7.

Emergency teams are being deployed to contact residents who need help, CalTrans snow crews and hand teams along with clearance vehicles from Cal Fire reached the area on Wednesday, officials said.

Locals are dealing with about 7 feet of snow, and the sheriff's department led seventeen rescue procedures to assist skiers and motorists on off-roaders.

Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency on Wednesday in San Bernardino and twelve additional counties, to support disaster relief with assistance from state agencies, making help available and asking for federal aid in clearing and fixing roadways.
