OXNARD-A 60-year-old male was killed, on Sunday, March 12, after he was shot by an Oxnard police officer, at approximately 6:00 a.m. in downtown Oxnard, officers said.

Police Officers were in the 100 block of Fourth Street in the process of a DUI investigation when the man rushed toward them with a 5-foot steel bar, the Oxnard Police Department said. Authorities said the man exerted the bar in a "threatening manner."

After the man was shot, police said Oxnard officers provided medical aid until emergency medics arrived at the scene. The man was subsequently taken to Ventura County Medical Center. and pronounced expired at roughly 8:30 a.m.

No officers nor members of the public were wounded, police said.

Officers stated that the motorist and passengers implicated in the DUI investigation gave statements to the officer. The shooting was captured on Body-camera footage, and will be released to the public later this week, police said.

The three officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol. Oxnard police's major crimes unit in conjunction with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident.
