A wrong-way driver caused a fatal collision involving five vehicles on the 60 Freeway near Crossroads Parkway, according to reports from the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle, who has not yet been identified but was reportedly driving a Hyundai Sedan, initially crashed into a big rig before fleeing the scene and driving eastbound in the westbound lane. As a result of this wrong-way maneuver, two other vehicles were involved in the crash—one of which sustained fatal casualties while another person was transported to the hospital in an unknown condition, officers said.

The driver of the Hyundai left the accident on foot and is still outstanding at this time. Despite efforts at providing life-saving assistance, sadly, a female girl from one of these vehicles involved in this second crash was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say.
