Superintendent Alberto Carvalho of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has implemented a controversial change to the acclaimed Primary Promise initiative. This initiative, which was launched in 2020, has been proven successful in boosting literacy and numeracy levels among kindergarten to third-grade students. Despite this, the Superintendent has declared the program to be excessively costly and of limited efficacy, much to the disappointment of the parents and teachers who had hailed it as a revolutionary measure. Nevertheless, they are still advocating to keep the scheme active, which entailed personalized instruction in maths and reading within mini-groups.
