A great number of hospitality employees at several hotels in Los Angeles and Orange County went on strike, in an attempt to receive higher wages, better health-care and retirement pensions.

"This morning, thousands of cooks, room attendants, dishwashers, delivery men, bell men , and front desk agents at multiple properties walked out on the largest multi-hotel strike in the Local's history,"  As reported by UNITE HERE, in a statement from a Local 11 Union representative.

The union has been in negotiate with over sixty hotels since April 2023. Other hotel management said non-union workers, will keep their hotels operating.

"We are aware that some of the associates at several downtown and Westside hotels are engaging in a work stoppage. This activity was expected. We are fully prepared to continue to operate these hotels and to take care of our guests as long as this disruption last. We also remain available to meet with the union whenever its leaders decide to make themselves available to resume negotiations,"  Keith Grossman & Ken Ballard, stated in a statement on behalf of the Coordinated Bargaining Group consisting of 44 Los Angeles and Orange County Hotels.

According to officials at Bargaining Group, a new labor agreement to replace the present agreement expires on June 30, 2023, as bargaining with UNITE HERE continues.
