CHP DEPLOYS STREET RACING AND SIDESHOW ENFORCEMENT OPERATION IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY

Street racing and sideshow incidents in California have become a significant concern for the California Highway Patrol (CHP). This year alone, CHP has responded to over 7,300 such incidents, involving around 123,000 participants. Sadly, over the past five years, street racing and sideshows have caused more than 260 accidents in California, with around 30 of them being fatal and over 124 resulting in injuries.
To combat this problem, the Southern Division Street Racing Enforcement Unit (SREU) conducted two operations on August 25th and 26th, 2023, in the County of Los Angeles.

These operations aimed to suppress street racing and sideshow activities, which involved deploying thirty-three SREU personnel to various locations to prevent groups from taking over intersections and conducting illegal racing activities.

The following results were achieved during the operations:

• 91 Citations issued

• 27 Arrests

• 31 Impounded/stored vehicles

• 2 Felony pursuits

• 1 Recovered stolen vehicle.
