Historic South Central

On September 11, 2023, at 2:45 p.m., a commercial building located at 4163 S Broadway St., caught fire and sustained significant structural damage that could potentially lead to its collapse. This building had been on fire before and was already in a precarious state.

As a result, the Los Angeles Fire Department has asked the American Red Cross for help in finding temporary accommodations for the nine adults, one infant, and five pets who live in a residential fourplex located to the west of the fire building.

Although the residential fourplex did not suffer any direct damage from the fire, it is within the calculated collapse zone of the commercial building, in case it does fall.

The Department of Building & Safety of the City of Los Angeles has again Red-Tagged the fire building as unsafe to enter.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
