On September 16, 2023, at approximately 5:29 p.m., firefighters responded to an incident involving an adult male who had fallen (or potentially jumped) from a bridge into the flood control channel below.

The fall was estimated to be at least 15 feet. Upon arrival, firefighters utilized a rigid stretcher known as a litter basket to secure the conscious patient. To safely bring the patient back up to street level, a rescue maneuver called a "moving ladder slide" was performed. This involved fastening the litter basket to a ladder and passing it along a line of firefighters using ropes/lashing, overcoming challenging terrain in the process. The patient was successfully brought up to street level and subsequently transported to a local trauma center in serious condition. No further information is available at this time.
