As reported via various media outlets, tricksters are becoming more refined using AI technology and new tactics. Best Buy has a team of trustworthy professionals toiling to monitor and protect against fraud, but there are also precautions you can take.
Here's more from the Best Buy Team
Best Buy® Gift Cards can only be used at Best Buy®.
Most gift card fraud happens when a scammer pretends to be a family member or a reputable entity like the IRS. Be wary if you're asked to pay bills, taxes or make other purchases with Best Buy Gift Cards—they can only be used in our stores or BestBuy.com.
Avoid Geek Squad® or My Best Buy Memberships™ scams.
Scammers may impersonate tech support or memberships to get information like credit card numbers or passwords. Do not call any numbers or click any links that claim you have an issue with your device. Remember, Best Buy generally does not make unsolicited calls to customers.
Contact Best Buy through trusted channels.
If you receive an unexpected message or call that makes you suspicious, hang up and do not respond. Instead, contact the publicly available support line directly at 1‑888‑BEST BUY (1‑888‑237‑8289). Don't call a number given to you by the caller.
Scammers use urgency to get you to act.
We will never use high-pressure tactics to persuade you. If you feel like you are being manipulated, end the communication. Then, contact Best Buy through a verified channel.
