On Monday morning, a number of Lahaina residents were granted permission to return to their homes for the first time since the tragic wildfire on August 8th. Interim-director of Maui Emergency Management Agency,

Darryl Oliveira informed the media that twenty-four property owners were allowed access to one of the initial zones that had been reopened in the disaster-stricken area. As additional areas become accessible to residents in the upcoming month, Oliveira emphasized that officials are providing residents with the necessary space and privacy to mourn their losses.
