On Thursday, October 12th, 2023 at 11:23 am, a man fell down a shaft approximately 30 feet deep in Downtown LA, located at 222 N Hill St. He became trapped and LAFD Firefighters were called to the scene. Due to the narrow width and depth of the space, the firefighters realized that ladders or putting a rescuer in the shaft would not be the best option.
Instead, they lowered a harness and rope down to the man and managed to raise him out of the shaft quickly and safely. Fortunately, the man was awake and alert, with no obvious injuries. Paramedics assessed him on the scene and decided to transport him to a nearby hospital for further evaluation, considering the long distance of the fall. Nothing else happened after the incident.
