On October 16th, 2023 at 12:51 pm, a fire broke out at 452 N San Fernando Rd. The fire was quickly attended by 34 LAFD firefighters who found several rubbish and vegetation fires, including a half-acre of grass that was prevented from spreading into a nearby commercial building.
Thankfully, there were no injuries or evacuations required. However, due to the fire's close proximity to the Metro A (Blue) Line, all service on that light rail line was paused until LAFD operations were complete. Transit riders were advised to follow @MetroLAAlerts on Twitter/X: (https://twitter.com/MetroLAAlerts) for service information. Although the fires were considered suspicious, the cause and any suspects remained unknown.
At 1:48 pm on the same day, an update was provided. The fire had been largely extinguished, with only a few small fires still burning. The Metro A (Blue) Line was confirmed to be the light rail line near and operationally impacted by the fires. All service on that light rail line was paused in the immediate area of Metro's Lincoln Heights / Cypress Park Station until LAFD operations were complete. The 34 firefighters were able to put out the fire in just 57 minutes, covering 0.75 acres. The cause of the fires was still under investigation but was still considered suspicious. Transit riders were advised to follow @MetroLAAlerts on Twitter/X: (https://twitter.com/MetroLAAlerts) for updated transit service information.
