So Cal Edison customers may lose power for fire safety due strong Santa Ana Winds
LOS ANGELES- Due to Santa Ana winds this week, Southern Cal Edison is forewarning clients in certain areas of Los Angeles that they may experience a loss of electric power for fire safeguard.
Edison issued a Public Safety Power Shutoff Warning for parts of Southern California that affected at least 73,000 customers. The notification is being announced on Wednesday, November 8.
Residents who live near high-risk areas should take necessary precautions and remain prepared to evacuate on short notice. The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch which will come into effect at 3 a.m. on Thursday and remain effective until 6 p.m. that evening. The watch applies to several regions, including the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, the San Gabriel Mountains, the Golden State (5) and Antelope Valley (14) freeway corridors, the Malibu Coast, Calabasas, and the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys.
This indicates that 1.5% of SCE's 5 million customers, may lose power to lower the chance of fires starting and advancing quickly after
powerful winds strike down electrical power lines.
