CHP ARRESTS AND CHARGES MAN FOR MURDER

  
GLENDALE, Calif. – A man in Hawthorne, has been taken into custody and charged with murder surrounding the death of 18-year-old Emily Bortee.

On Oct. 16, 2023, CHP officers in the Santa Fe Springs Area responded to the Rose Hills Road on-ramp to the northbound Interstate 605 freeway, in the city of Pico Rivera, after a member of the public contacted 9-1-1 to report a body was discovered near an on-ramp to the freeway. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the remains of  a deceased female in the ivy, who was later identified as Bortee.

Based on the evidence, A thorough investigation conducted by the CHP’s Southern Division Major Crimes Unit led to the Oct. 23, 2023, arrest of 26-year-old Marvell Beroit. 

The case was brought up before the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Nov. 16, 2023, which filed one count of Penal Code Section 187(a) – Murder, against Beroit for the death of Ms. Bortee. The suspect's Bail was set at $2,025,000.
