Multiple calls were made to the California Highway Patrol on November 19, 2023, at around 3:16 P.M. reporting a male pedestrian walking in the traffic lanes of westbound Interstate 105 at Wilmington Avenue.
A CHP South Los Angeles Area unit arrived on the scene and engaged with the pedestrian. However, a struggle broke out, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.
As a result, all westbound lanes of Interstate 105 at Long Beach Boulevard are closed for the on-scene part of the investigation, and it is unknown how long this will take. To get traffic updates, motorists were referred to keep an eye on the Changeable Message Signs (CMS).
