‘SIM Swapper’ Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison for Campaign of Fraud and Deception, Including Hacking into Instagram Accounts
LOS ANGELES –Amir Hossein Golshan, 25, of downtown Los Angeles,was sentenced today by United States District Judge Otis D. Wright II, to 96 months in federal prison for committing a series of frauds, including one in which he “SIM swapped” victims – one of them a social media influencer – to hijack their Instagram accounts to obtain money unlawfully.
The Judge ordered Golshan to pay $1,218,526 in restitution. At today’s hearing, Judge Wright said Golshan’s crimes went “beyond just money,” and that they showed a “wanton cruelty” that caused the victims to live in a state of “constant fear and worry.”
