Mom and daughter killed after auto collision at bus stop in South LA, police say
SOUTH LOS ANGELES - A female age 9 has passed away days after she and her mother were struck by an SUV at a bus stop in South Los Angeles, officers reported on Tuesday, November 28.
According to LAPD, The girl passed away on Monday, November 27, detectives informed ABC7. Her identity has not been released publicly. At approximately 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, 26-year-old Alma Aragon and her daughter were waiting at a bus stop in the 1700 block of West 83rd Street, when the incident occurred, the LAPD stated.
investigators said, a motorist operating a sedan exited a liquor store parking area at high speed and reeled into the bus stop hitting both victims.
The juvenile was severely injured following the collision involving a DUI suspect.
Video from AIR7 HD video footage showed the automobile colliding with the rear of the bus bench, moving it off of the sidewalk and into the roadway.
Mother and child, and one of the motorists were rushed to a hospital, where Aragon was pronounced deceased, the LAPD said.
Currently, no one has been arrested in connection with the collision. Law enforcement officers stated investigators were actively collecting more video footage from the scene and interviewing bystanders.
Gross vehicular manslaughter and murder are among the probable charges faced by one or both drivers, the LAPD said, and formal charges were expected to be filed shortly.
