California aims to demonstrate its commitment to tackling climate change and promoting sustainable transportation at COP28
The upcoming COP28 conference will commence this week, where world leaders will convene to address climate issues. California is expected to play a prominent role in these discussions, with representatives from Governor Gavin Newsom's administration attending and highlighting the state's accomplishments in clean energy goals, zero-emission vehicles, and nature-based solutions.
In addition, California will continue its diplomatic efforts at the subnational level following Governor Newsom's recent trip to China. During his visit, he engaged in productive climate talks with local leaders, underscoring the importance of subnational governments such as states, provinces, and cities in collaborating internationally to combat climate change.
Wade Crowfoot, California's natural resources secretary emphasized this point during a press briefing on Tuesday: "Our presence here is not only about California showcasing its progress but also about advocating for subnational governments' pivotal role in international collaboration against climate change."
California is prepared to leverage its expertise and influence to contribute meaningfully towards global efforts to address climate challenges at COP28 and beyond.
