Update: Outbreak Investigation of Salmonella: Cantaloupes
It has come to the notice of the FDA that pre-cut products made from recalled cantaloupes are being recalled. The FDA has posted a list of these recalls on its website. Cut Fruit Express recalled cantaloupe chunks and fruit mixes containing cantaloupe on November 30, 2023. TGD Cuts, LLC also initiated a recall of specific fresh-cut fruit cups, clamshells, and tray products containing cantaloupe from TruFresh on December 5, 2023.
As of December 7, 2023, a total of 230 cases from 38 states have been reported by the CDC, with the latest onset date being November 20, 2023. According to the epidemiological data collected by the CDC, 78 of the 105 cases report exposure to cantaloupe, and 42 people specifically reported eating pre-cut cantaloupe.
The investigation is still ongoing to find out whether there are any additional products linked to illnesses. The FDA will provide an update on this advisory as soon as additional consumer safety information becomes available. You can read the full update on the FDA website.
