Andre Keith Braugher, best known for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" Dies at 61

LOS ANGELES - Emmy-winning actor Andre Keith Braugher, best known for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Homicide: Life on the Street," and Men of a Certain Age has passed away after a bout of illness, according to his representative. He was 61 years old. The cause of the actor's death was not disclosed.

For more than 30 years Braugher had a great career in television and movies and numerous award nominations and wins under his belt.

Representatives for Braugher confirmed to ABC News that he passed away Monday.

-born role he was cast "Glory," starring alongside Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman in the 1989 film about the Civil War.

He won his second Emmy, for lead actor in a miniseries or movie, for the 2006 limited series "Thief." He was nominated for 11 Emmys overall in his career.

He graced the screens appearing in other films, including "Primal Fear," and "Salt." He  was also a voice-over actor in animated roles in "BoJack Horseman" and "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse."

Braugher was born in Chicago in 1962, he attended Stanford University and Juilliard School. Braugher is survived by his wife, Ami Brabson - his "Homicide" costar whom he married in 1991 - and their three sons, John, Michael, and Isaiah.
