A U.S. air traffic controllers shortage is causing delayed flightt and potential safety
According to a report commissioned by the FAA, the number of fully certified controllers has decreased by around 1,000 over the past decade, and the agency is projected to gain fewer than 200 more controllers in the next ten years. Concerns have been raised by the National Transportation Safety Board and the controller union regarding mandatory overtime, fatigue, and distractions. The NTSB is investigating staffing issues while also examining recent near-collisions on the tarmac. When there aren't enough controllers, the FAA slows down air traffic to ensure safety, is working to hire and train new controllers, and encourages employees to report any issues.
