Peacock goes commercial free during 4th quarter of NFL Playoff

Peacock, the streaming service owned by NBCUniversal, will air two exclusive NFL games without any commercials during the fourth quarter. The first ad-free game will be towards the end of the regular season, featuring the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers. The second game without ads will be a playoff match on January 13, 2024, for which Peacock paid around $110 million to carry.

While media companies usually benefit a lot from advertising during NFL games, Peacock is taking a different approach. It is prioritizing long-term growth over short-term cash gains by offering an uninterrupted viewing experience to attract new viewers who may potentially turn into paying subscribers. Peacock expects to attract a large number of new viewers and believes that providing a high-quality viewing experience is key to converting them into paying customers.
