CHP Central Los Angeles and LAPD multi-agency DUI checkpoint
The California Highway Patrol Central Los Angeles area will partake in a multi-agency driving under the influence DUI sobriety checkpoint with the Los Angeles Police Department on December 22nd, 2023 in downtown Los Angeles the checkpoint will be scheduled at roughly 5:30 p.m. and will be operating at 6:00 p.m. and set to conclude at 11:00 p.m. The checkpoint is part of a combined chp-LAPD measure to curb impaired driving in the city of Los Angeles.
The location of the multi-sobriety checkpoint at Figueroa Street and 9th Street drivers approaching the checkpoint will see information signs informing them of the sobriety checkpoint ahead.
Drivers will be detained periodically while the officials clarify the intention of the checkpoint if there is stormy weather the checkpoint may be canceled for safety reasons and the CHP officers will be assigned to the roving DUI units.
The multi-agency sobriety checkpoint will be staffed by officers who are trained to train in the direction of alcohol and or drug-impaired drivers. Drug recognition experts certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be on-site to provide on-the-spot assessments of drivers suspected of drug use.
The officers will also be equipped with handheld breath testing devices which provide an accurate estimation of the blood alcohol concentration of suspected impaired motorists.
Funding for the program was provided to a grant provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
