On December 22, 2023, a major emergency structure fire occurred at a three-story home located at 15837 W Royal Oak Rd in Encino, which caused severe damage to the property. The fire originated in the framing and wrapped stage of construction.

The fire department responded to the incident, and 133 LAFD firefighters took 3 hours to control the fire. The majority of the operation was defensive in nature. The firefighters had to access, confine, and extinguish the stubborn fire that was deeply entrenched within the 28,000 square feet of floor space. It is believed that the fire was caused by an unknown reason, and an investigation is currently underway.

The workers who were present on the site when the fire started managed to escape unharmed, and no firefighters were injured during the operation. The homeowner has confirmed that the three-story residence was undergoing a major renovation. The LAFD operations team will continue to cool hotspots and investigate the cause of the fire within the unstable structure throughout the night.
