On January 1st, 2024, at 12:11 am, a Knockdown #VanNuys Greater Alarm Structure Fire broke out at 6415 N Van Nuys Bl. More than 100 firefighters worked for 2 hours and 39 minutes to extinguish the flames. The fire occurred in a large one-story commercial building that housed three separate businesses and was part of a row of other commercial buildings on Van Nuys Boulevard.
The primary purpose of the businesses in the fire building was the storage and sale of textiles, which fueled the fire heavily. A church also operated out of the rear of the building. Firefighters arrived to see smoke coming out of the building, but after making their way inside and ventilating the roof, flames began shooting over 30 feet out of the building.
Firefighters relocated their efforts to the exterior of the building, using ladder pipes and other large hose streams to fight the fire from the outside. Eventually, the roof collapsed, giving firefighters a more clear shot through the top, and successfully kept the fire from spreading to the adjacent businesses, which share a wall with the fire building. No one was inside, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
