SANTA MONICA-A renter in Santa Monica and a property owner were taken into custody after an alleged New Year’s Day slaying of one of his renters.
On Jan. 1, San Bernadino Sheriff Deputies along with San Bernardino County Fire officials responded to a call regarding a medical emergency in the 55800 block of Montara Road.
Upon arrival, officials discovered William Durst,54, and an unresponsive male identified as Jeffrey Cull, 71, who resided on the property and was later determined to be deceased.
The landlord Mr.Durst, was arrested and booked for murder at the Morongo Basin jail.
During A homicide investigation, officials found out Durst came to the property in an attempt to force Mr.Cull to vacate the premises. A verbal dispute occurred after Cull refused to vacate the premises, Durst then sprayed the tenant with bear spray, putting him in a chokehold. Cull succumbed and became unresponsive, losing consciousness.
