A few California Laws you need to know about
The following are some key legislative changes that have been made recently:
Criminal justice:
- A pilot program was established in six cities for speed cameras.
- The statewide ban on cruising was lifted, and the ban on modifying vehicles to a certain low height was undone.
- The sentence for dealing more than one kilogram of fentanyl has been increased by three years.
- Penalties for human sex trafficking of a minor have been increased by classifying it as a "serious felony."
- "Ebony Alerts" have been established for missing Black youth and women between the ages of 12 and 25.
Education:
- The process for undocumented college students to apply for state financial aid has been streamlined.
Health care:
- Medi-Cal has been expanded to eligible undocumented immigrants of all ages.
- Private health insurance plans are now required to cover birth control products for women without prescriptions or co-pays at in-network pharmacies, and out-of-pocket costs for vasectomies for men with private insurance have been banned.
- Nursing homes are now required to offer residents copies of any information that explains the reasons for their eviction.
